Recipe Corner




Every once in a while, we have treat days and enjoy special foods like Hotdogs, burgers or pizza. Our regular menu sticks to strict health food policies. We avoid the use use of MSG, high sugar or processed products and make sure your child is staying well hydrated as well as eating RIGHT.

Ready for some of our top recipes?


Brochette


Materials Needed:

  • One large Bowl

  • One small Bowl

  • Sharp Knife

  • Bread Knife

  • Mixing Spoon

  • Cutting Board

  • Oven

Ingredients:

  • Tomatoes (Cherry tomatoes preferred)

  • Garlic

  • Basil (Fresh or dried)

  • Balsamic Vinegar

  • Olive Oil

  • Baguette

Instructions:

Dice tomatoes into small cubes

Mince or Press the garlic as finely as possible

Pre-heat oven to 250C

Mix the tomatoes & garlic in a large bowl with some olive oil & balsamic vinegar

Let the mixture sit (Covered) while you complete the other steps.

If you are using dried basil leaves then add them to the mix.

If you are using fresh basil leaves then do not add them to the mix.

Slice a baguette into the thickness about the size of an adult thumb, and lightly toast them in the oven.

Once your baguette is toasted, top with the mixture prepared earlier and take a bite!



Cheesy Mashed Potatoes


Prep time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 20 Minutes

If you love good, old fashioned mashed potatoes then this is the perfect recipe for you!


Materials Needed

  • Cutting Board

  • Large bowl

  • Potato masher or electric mixer

  • Peeler

  • Strainer

  • sharp knife* #becareful


Ingredients


  • 2 lb of potatoes, peeled & diced in quarters

  • 2 tbs. butter

  • 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 cup of milk

  • 1. can of tuna in water*optional

  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions:


  • Bring a pot of salted water to a boil

  • While waiting, peel and slice your potatoes. Leave soaking in cold water.

  • Once water has boiled, add potatoes and cook until tender but firm, about 15 minutes will do. Drain potatoes.

  • In a small saucepan, heat butter & milk until butter is melted.

  • Using a potato masher or electric beater, slowly blend milk mixture into potatoes until smooth & creamy.

  • Season with salt & pepper to taste.




Lentil Soup


Materials Needed:


  • One medium sized pot

  • Stove or Hotplate

  • Sharp Knives

  • Mixing Spoon

  • Cutting Board


Ingredients:


  • Dried lentils #anykindwilldo

  • Celery

  • Carrots (x2)

  • Garlic

  • Potatoes

  • Shallots

  • Bullion stock cube or make your own* #lookitup

  • Dried Thyme

  • Dried Rosemary

  • Fresh water

  • Salt & Pepper to taste


Instructions:

  • Chop up the celery, garlic, shallots & potatoes

  • Add oil to the pot and sauté the celery, shallots an garlic on low heat for 5 minutes.

  • Add chopped potatoes to the pot and cook for 5 more minutes

  • Add the water and stock cube, rosemary & Thyme and bring to a rolling boil.

  • Add the lentils and continue cooking.

  • Check the potatoes & lentils are cooked all the way through.

  • Allow to cool down and #digin




Note: We'll be adding more recipes soon but for now, enjoy trying out the first three. Your child is guaranteed to love them.
