THROWBACK TIME

To Our Best Halloween Celebration to date!

We Call It "Fall-O-Ween"

There is a child in every one of us who is still a Trick-or-Treater looking for a brightly Lit Front porch .

Our Halloween celebrations at both campuses last November was a huge success. We saw so many wonderful, creative costumes! The day started out with a Halloween themed morning meeting. Each class was given 10 minutes to create a Halloween poster. You can still see these hanging on the front door of the school. Once we headed to the classrooms the real fun began. We got our hands dirty and made some gooey slime and carved watermelon jack-o’-lanterns.

At 10am we headed to the rooftop playground for the main event of the day – Halloween Challenges! This was a chance for the kids to face their fears and show of their athletic skills! Our first activity was the Halloween relay race. The goal of the race was to collect pumpkin tokens for your team. Sounds easy, right? The 1st daunting challenge was the “Mystery Boxes”. Pumpkin tokens were mixed in with watermelon seeds, spaghetti and crickets.

With all stages of the race being optional, most of the kids opted not to risk having crickets climbing on their hands! #wouldyou?

Stage 2 of the race gave the kids a little break from the creepy crawlies. A traditional apple bobbing game! Unfortunately, the kids discovered that this looks easier than it is. The 3rd and final stage of the race was a gastronomical challenge! A delectable piece of celery with peanut butter, topped with a cricket! Mr Matt made sure to eat the first one to provide a bit of encouragement to kids. Most kids however, decided cricket was not on the menu for them today. Once the pumpkin tokens were tallied, Team 1 emerged victorious with a score of 36. Team 3 came in second place with a score of 31, and team 2 and 4 tied for third place with 29 tokens each.

For the penultimate game of the day we moved on to the jack-o’-lantern piñata challenge. The kids took turns at breaking the piñata while blindfolded. With the reward of candy on the line, the kids made short work of the piñatas with all 4 being broken within the first 3 minutes!

The final challenge of the day was a last-man-standing balloon challenge. The aim of the game is to pop the balloon tied to your opponent’s ankle while protecting yours. The kids really enjoyed this final challenge. After lunch we headed indoors to watch a Halloween themed movie. Grade 1 and 2 enjoyed a showing of “Coco” while grade 3 and 4 chose to watch “Hotel Transylvania 3”. We all had a fantastic day and look forward to seeing the costumes next year!
