RESOURCE RAFT - FREE DIGITAL RESOURCES AT YOUR FINGERTIPS.

Who hasn't -- in-between trying to connect you/ your child to Zoom, wait out a power cut, feed the baby, reset your wifi, commute to work on time-- looked around at the pile up of items leftover from months of home learning and thought "What in the world am I going to do with all this"??

On the bright side, and there is always a bright side, imagine the simple joys of things we barely let cross our radar. Stable wifi. Classwork sent home from school (so you're printer can get a well deserved holiday) actually looking forward to the rush of morning school drop off, secure in the knowledge that the learning environment your child is in is working together with you towards their overall development.

Just in case that might be you, congratulations. You've come to the right site! DK Schoolhouse has been in the business of sourcing and sharing as many digital resources as we can with our local community.

While we can't make up for the months your children have been socially distanced from their peers, we place a major emphasis on researching, planning and preparing the best strategies to help students ease back into real-life learning. Like we shared in another Zoom Hack post, staying motivated during the struggle of distance learning is, well, #thestruggleisreal.

STUDY OUTSIDE THE BOX

Your child coping with a new routine is also the perfect time to try some out of the box learning tactics. When's the last time you enjoyed a hobby? Why not try seeing what hobbies your child has an interest in, and see how far they pursue their practical life #learningthroughplay hobby. Gardening, art, photography, gymnastics, woodworking, cooking, scrapbooking, singing or learning to play an instrument are just a few of thousands of hobbies to chose from. Is your child interested (and old enough) to understand the functionalities of technology? Sites like

Sites like Kodable, which teaches basic programing and coding in a child friendly way, The Great Plant Escape chock full of gardening and self sustaining tips, and FunBrain with their excerpts of many children's favorite series: "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" are some of our tried and proven favorites.

If you've made it this far through our #tipsandtricks, here come the goodies.

On today's menu we have:

PREK and Kindergarten Activity Pack (with a week's worth of materials) with a well rounded list of review topics, coloring pages and craft ideas.

S.T.E.M: Make a Bubble Explosion by trying this fun experiment. Bonus points? You're adding four learning topics while your child is busy in Bubble bliss. See the full #cheatsheet video tutorial below

YOU CAN TRAVEL ANYWHERE, BE ANYONE, DO ANYTHING, JUST BY GETTING LOST IN THE PAGES OF A BOOK.

The difference, and benefit, of having your child listen to stories rather than watch them being read is worth thinking about. Children listening to gradually longer stories helps them understand writing narrative, maintain focus and learn the fast fading art of using ones imagination over Google to visualize something.

BE A SCIENTIST

Especially now when there's probably a pile of something that you just don't know how to get rid of. This is where you get the kids to help and make it a memorable moment. Try replicating our Rube Goldberg experiment that was presented virtually #sametimelastyear
